The King drafted an army and began fortifying the capital to protect it from the onslaught of assassins charging towards them. Men from across the capital and nearby towns came to the call, securing the king fifty thousand men. The king positioned the men across the capital’s stone walls--which reached thirty feet in height. The fifty thousand men secured the capital, making it seem invincible. However, the king was unsure of a victory, evacuating from the city along with his family. The second prince and princess remained behind, deciding to stay behind voluntarily. The king, queen, first prince, and princess fled from the city, leaving their citizens to their deaths.
Unfortunately, the king was right. A horde of assassins followed Enzo, moving from city to city and gathering a stronger force with Enzo acting as the leader. High-tier assassins were roped in through favors while lower-ranked assassins wanted glory and to kill without consequences. This gave many assassins motivation to join with Enzo and topple the royal family from the kingdom, separating their ties. “The royal family is to be murdered! Only the third princess is to survive! Anybody who goes against this rule and targets the third princess will be killed!” Enzo shouted. He understood the situation he’d created. With everybody except the third princess killed by the assassins, a new ruler must step forward. Violet would become the ruler of the kingdom, taking the place from her father.
The second prince---Anton---recognized the situation at hand. The assassins would charge into the city and slaughter the royal family. However, he didn’t wish to die. Instead, he wanted to take over and lead the kingdom with his own view. The only way for his vision to become reality would be the death of his parents and older siblings. The second princess---Pearl---backed Anton’s vision and sought for it to reach reality. “The only way for them to die will be by the assassins’ hands. How about we tell them their location and free Dragon?” She suggested.
“That’s perfect. The assassins would leave us alone and take out the thorns in our sides in one fell swoop. Assign ten thousand troops to guard the castle and send a messenger to the frontlines. Try to contact Overseer or whoever’s in charge.” He ordered, sending his sister away. He then sat down on the golden throne and laughed menacingly to himself. Every piece was falling into place. The near-execution of his sister Violet, the capture of Dragon, and the appearance of a large assassin horde. Everything that occurred was a plan that he had set in motion, forcing his subordinates---Dagger assassins---to do the dirty work; and it worked.
The boss of the Dagger Guild was Anton, who turned out to be the second prince of the kingdom. A scheming and dangerous young man of nineteen with tanned features. His crimson red eyes glistened in the faint sunlight that penetrated the throne room. He was in control of everything.
Enzo arrived at the wall protecting the citizens of the capital. In front of the main gate was a man dressed in a matching red and white suit. “Overseer or leader of the assassins step forward. We are willing to release Dragon and give you the locations of the king and queen!” He shouted, repeating his words over and over.
“Should we trust them?” One of Issac’s disciples---Splice---asked.
“No, raid the city. We’ll take Dragon and the king by force.
“Let’s give them a chance. Send one of the low-ranks.” Another disciple---Reaper---suggested.
“I agree,” Splice whispered.
“Send one,” Enzo muttered. Violet and Cerryila were closeby, watching the low-rank adventurer meeting with the messenger. After a few tense moments, the low ranker returned and informed Enzo of the situation. “It seems like the second prince wants to take over. Splice, take a team and kill the king, queen, and older siblings.” He said, handing him a map. Splice grabbed the map and whistled for a team of assassins to follow him, departing to chase after the king. Enzo led another team through the capital and towards the castle. Reaper was positioned outside of the city, watching the guards’ movements.
Splice located the king and half of his family, striking them with ease. They couldn’t defend themselves from the team of assassins, slicing their throats without any resistance. The assassins tore their heads off and put them on poles, forming pikes. They returned to the capital to show off their achievements. Once witnessing the heads of half of the royal family, one careless guard decided to fire a single bullet toward the assassins. Splice and his team dodged the single bullet, but the guard had dealt great damage.
Reaper charged into the city---half of the assassins following after him---and raided the city, killing nobles, guards, and any that stood in their way.
Meanwhile, Enzo and his team of assassins penetrated the castle’s defenses. They dashed into the castle and entered the throne room. Waiting for them was the second prince---on his way to being the king---sitting on the throne. “You are?”
“I don’t need to tell you my name,” Enzo remarked.
“Okay, I see. Well, if you’re here for Dragon, then you can take him. However, if you intend on taking me down, then I implore you not to.” Anton said. Enzo glanced over at his team and sent two assassins---hiding in the faint shadows---to locate Issac while he dealt with Anton.
“What do you want?” Enzo asked.
“Your cooperation. I want to take the throne for myself.”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible.”
“Why not?” Anton asked, sitting forward with his hands intertwined. “You want Violet or yourself to take the throne?”
“I’m not fit to rule a nation. Violet, however, is.” Enzo retorted. Anton shook his head as he brandished a pistol. “You intend on killing me?”
“Nope, I won’t be able to.” He pointed at the assassins hanging on the ceiling above him. “However, I intend on keeping the throne. I will become the king even if you don’t agree with me.”
“Sir, Dragon has been found.” A voice radioed over a small headphone-chip implanted in his ear---similar to a Bluetooth earbud.
“Take him out of the castle,” Enzo ordered.
“Oh, you must have found him,” Anton remarked. “Now, get out. You killed my father and retrieved your friend. Is there anything else you need?” Guards began flooding into the room, an overwhelming amount. Enzo glared at Anton---who shared the same action.
“Retreat. Leave the city in flames.” Enzo remarked into his earpiece to every assassin in the capital. The assassins burned the mansions of nobles and slaughtered hundreds of guards before leaving the capital behind, in flames. Enzo ordered for Splice and Reaper to return, escaping the capital and fleeing to their guild homes. Splice and Reaper fled to continue their assassinations by themselves, completing their share of the favor. They were on their own now.
Violet and Cerryila returned to Alphca and saw the tensions in the city, moving to a smaller town to stay low. Violet wasn’t given the throne, cast out by Anton. Cerryila followed her, staying by her side as they hid in the small town of Marksberry.
Enzo and Issac returned to Veronica’s cabin to say their goodbyes before venturing to a smaller town---Ethen---and built a new headquarters.
Dagger Guild began gathering power with the help of Anton’s reputation and strength. The Dagger Guild was now at the pinnacle of power---with ties to the king and his goods. The guild reigned supreme in the kingdom.
Anton watched as the capital was being repaired from his bedroom balcony. “Our kingdom will treat magic-users as gods… magic will prevail!”
