Chapter Thirty Three "The Mage With Sealed Powers S2 E1 - Until It Was Too Late"Three months passed after Luis Feral’s captured. Since then, everyone has trained to gain more control over their abilities. Many of them had begun developing their powers and some could materialize objects or use their powers in new and different ways. Arson was able to materialize chains from his Creation: Darkness skill while Natalie could form arrows out of her spiritual power, which also utilized her mana, which could pierce through trees with greater force. The others experience similar upgrades, but nothing significant. Even so, Enix was proud of them. He was proud of how they had changed since the first day he met them.
So proud that, when he learned of Merlin reappearing to raise his level cap, he wanted to show them off. He wanted to show Merlin how well he did to help forge his subordinates from their rabbit states to their new dragon states.
When the day finally arrived, he waited for Merlin patiently with his subordinates at the edge of town where he had been dropped off. By his side was North and Fred on the other side.
North glanced at him, noticing that his nerves were acting up. She leaned in close to him, whispering into his ear. “Calm down. There’s nothing to worry about. Merlin will be here with good news. And I’m sure he’ll like your slaves.”
“Subordinates.” He corrected her, playing with the silver watch that Merlin gifted him. He acted like a child waiting to be praised by a father.
“He’ll like your subordinates.”
Enix nodded his head. “I hope so…” He muttered before his voice trailed off. In front of him was the Hellbringer. It was flying towards the town, shifting mid-air to land perpendicular to them. As soon as it touched down, the passenger’s door opened up. Merlin exited the aircraft, staring at Enix, and glancing at the other.
Merlin approached him in the same purple and gold cloak that he wore when Enix first saw him. He rubbed his white and scruffy beard as he approached Enix, taking small steps. After a small collection of steps, he stood in front of Enix, staring down at him. Merlin was above six feet while Enix was only 5’10, an average height for his age.
Enix looked up at Merlin, seeing past his facial hair and into his sea-blue eyes and the endless wrinkles around and above them. He could see the centuries of worries on Merlin’s face plain as day. It was strange.
“Enix?” Merlin muttered. “It’s good to see you in good health.” He extended his hand out. Enix stared at him then at his hand.
“You too, Merlin.” He said as he shook hands with Merlin.
“Good… now let’s get straight to business. I need to raise your limiter.” Merlin told him. He glanced at North. “What percentage is he at?”
“Five percent.”
“Five?” He said with raised eyebrows. “Well,” He started before looking at Enix. “I’m proud of you. In almost four months, you already exceeded my expectation. However, now, the process will take a little longer than usual.” He said before raising three fingers and pressing them against Enix’s forehead. He closed his eyes, concentrating on raising Enix’s cap. He pushed his mana into Enix’s body and forcefully raised the limiter until it reached ten percent, enough for Enix to continue his training but not overload his body and cause premature death.
With the limiter raised, Merlin raised his eyes and took his fingers off Enix’s forehead. He took a few steps backward, keeping his eyes on Enix. “How do you feel?”
“Better. I feel some sort of energy rushing through me, but it’s not anything bad, I think.” Enix said.
Merlin nodded. “That’s good. I would recommend taking a nap since I raised the cap significantly. It’s now at ten percent.”
“Ten percent?” North questioned. “Isn’t that a little much?”
“He’s already at five percent, I don’t see why I should stop there. I also don’t know when I’ll be able to come back to raise his cap again, so having the limiter at ten percent should be enough.” He explained. “Now I’ll have to leave before the king learns of my disappearance.”
“Wait!” Enix exclaimed. “I want to introduce you to my subordinates.” He insisted. Merlin nodded, allowing Enix to show them off.
Enix turned to the first of his subordinates, Arson. “This is Arson, he has Creation: Darkness. Next to him is Natalie, she has Spiritual Power.”
“Spiritual Power? Interesting.” Merlin muttered.
“After Natalie is Rex, he’s our medic since he has Heal IV. Standing right behind him is Milena. She has Physical Enhancement. The last of my subordinates is Jessica, she has Ark Light and Null: Forcefield.” He said, wrapping up the introductions.
Merlin nodded his head, absorbing the information. “Very interesting,” He started. “I am very surprised at the collection of people and their skills here. May I ask how did you find them?”
“They were slaves he saved after stopping bandits before they could destroy Citrate,” North explained. “They had nowhere else to go than with him.
Merlin nodded. “I see… has Citrate encounter any damage during the attack?”
North nodded before glancing at Enix. “There was no damage. Enix managed to freeze the entire bandit party before they could take a step onto your territory. The only damage that happened was the death of many plants in Enix’s way. They all froze and died. We just began replanting them.”
“I see… I’m assuming that his Creation: Ice was the perpetrator in that situation?” He asked. North nodded. “Okay, then… that’s unfortunate and fortunate.”
“How?” North asked.
“Unfortunate because crops were destroyed, but fortunate because it shows that he can release his power and may be close to controlling it fully.”
North nodded. “I understand,”
Merlin softly nodded his head before glancing at Enix’s subordinates. “Enix, can we… can we speak in private?” He asked. Enix nodded.
Merlin beckoned him to follow him some distance away, out of earshot of the others.
Merlin turned around to face Enix, checking to see if anybody was close to them but nobody was. With this now ensure, he began speaking. “Why did you accept them?”
Enix furrowed his brows. “Why do you ask? You think I shouldn’t have?”
Merlin bit his lip, hesitating to answer his question. “I… I don’t know. I understand that you felt like you had an obligation to accept them, but… are you fit to train them as their mentor?” He questioned.
“Uh… Well, I… I thought I was, but…” His voice trailed off as he couldn’t think of the words to answer the question.
Merlin looked away from Enix, staring at the Hellbringer. “I would… I would suggest telling them that you aren’t fit. You’ll only be leading them astray.”
Enix looked up at Merlin, staring at his mentor’s face. He didn’t feel happiness, but only anger. Enix didn’t appreciate Merlin’s words, especially since this was the second time Merlin had appeared. If anything, North was more of a mentor to Enix than Merlin.
“I… I won’t do that. I think… I’m sure that I’m fit to be their mentor.” He argued.
Merlin looked down at him, bitting the inner part of his cheek. “Well… if that’s what you believe.” He said before walking away from him and towards North. He began to say his byes, hugging North while waving at Enix’s subordinates. He then turned to face Enix, about to wave at him but Enix wasn’t staring at him. Enix was absorbed by his thoughts and anger that he didn’t notice Merlin until it was too late. Until he had entered Hellbringer and was taken away by Zeke. Until it was too late.

Chapter Thirty Four "The Mage With Sealed Powers S2 E2 - Mentor"Several hours later, Enix and the others continued their training. Enix’s limiter was raised, but nothing came out of it, at least not instantly. He couldn’t materialize any new abilities aside from his Frozen Wave ability, but he wasn’t demotivated. He continued to train until North pulled him aside.
“I’ll be right back, I need you to watch over Jessica’s progress. I’m sure she’ll become lax as soon as I leave.” She told him.
Enix nodded as he wiped the sweat off his body. “Got it.”
North nodded, turning away from him. However, she turned back around to face him. “Whatever Merlin said to you, do your best to ignore it.”
