first year romping around as friends with everyone and anyone, probably not really knowing or caring that I was supposed to be his person. He was my dog, in any case. The second year, I moved house to live right near the ocean near Fremantle. The Governor General’s son seemed to have lived there just before I did, for a letter arrived for him from his dad one day. It was a cold house in winter, but a fabulous location right across the railway years and road between the house and the ocean. He air was fresh. The breeze was strong and salty. The lime blocks being trained and carried from near there gave white dust to the area at the railway years or lines. Those were the days well before all the modernization and development of properties of the current day North Fremantle. I lived in an old fishermen’s or wharfies’ shack. Rent was cheap. I risked my life riding my racing bike slowly along the highway to unit I think it was. It was a close shave against the cars continually. I was poor. Couldn’t figure out any way to get money really properly at all back then. No one would talk to me about how to. There is no advice. I was 19 going on for 20. I think art school called me that year, before anthropology school got me the following year. Poverty sucked at whatever age. Its no good expecting young people to remain poor and underpaid, even whilst students. They all pine in poverty…..and it’s a slow ruination of their lives. My brother was affected from the age of 15…and right through medical school, though he denies it altogether to annihilate it from having power over him. Most young people pine over these same issues. I think its time to end this very long slow kind of suffering of so very many people. Need to ask and talk to young people about how they feel about their real situation with money in or not in their lives….and how much they need, and what they really need to be doing, instead of silently subjecting and brainwashing countless young people to do studies and things which they really don’t’ need or want.
