phone rang.
“Hello” he muttered.
There was no reply, until…
“Told you, you could write.”
“Who is this?”
Frank felt a shiver down his spine the voice was deep and sinister.
“You really don’t get it. Fact writes fiction, Philosophy and predictions cause disasters, let your mind into the equation and start calculating your next character.
“Look here what do you mean, who are you?”
He slammed the phone down and went into the fridge for a can of beer. The cold liquid soothed his throat.
Dominic put a CD into his player he was bored. He flicked through the pages of the CD cover, letting the music hit his ears. He was still wondering what had happened to Frank. He turned up the music until a figure appeared at his door, it was Laura.
“Hi, I read that book, that Frank is a genius, he’s very skilled at creating tension, it didn’t end properly though.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well the man in a suit who was he?”
“He was an evil entity.”
“Like an alien.”
“More like a phantom.”
“Creepy.”
“Anyhow your Mum invited me to stay for tea; we could walk up to the park after.”
They sat at their table spaghetti was the dish and messy but delicious.
“So Laura how you finding college?” Dom’s Mum asked.
“Okay it’s quite interesting.”
“Dom thinks highly of you.”
“MUM…”
“It’s alright we get on well Laura replied.
Suddenly there was a text message which appeared on Laura’s phone.
“Don’t go to the park tonight.”
“Who is it” Dom asked.
“I don’t know but it says stay away from the park.”
“Well we don’t have to go to the park.”
**********************************************************************************
“Superintendent McCoy what happened here?”
“Triple homicide, but it looks like the killer might not be human.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well there’s bite marks and a ripped torso eyes plucked out, take a look.”
McCoy pulled back the sheet to examine the body as mentioned all three were pretty mangled.
“We found this on one of the girls.”
“What is it?”
“It’s a letter addressed to a Laura Mole. I took the privilege of opening it.”
“What’s it say?”
“It says beware the molecules that make up matter or your blood will splatter.”
“What’s it mean, no identity on any of the victims? Our only lead is Laura Mole. The police and the superintendent decided to visit her.
Frank woke up with a head ache he had a pain in his stomach and he must have cut himself somehow in the mouth. He swirled his mouth out and spat out the blood. He wanted Gill to be here at least she’ll be able to cheer him up. As he was thinking the phone rang.
“Where are you?”
“Pardon?”
“It’s Sunday meal, remember?”
“**** be there in 30 mins.”
“The parks closed from what I can gather a triple homicide.”
“What?”
“Yeah nothing happens round here.”
Frank went into his cupboard and pulled out a shirt, from it a piece of paper fell onto the floor.
“Meet me at 4 tomorrow.”
“How did that get there at least it wasn’t his handwriting so he wouldn’t be meeting himself he thought.”
He arrived at the Tall Stack the best restaurant in town. The waiter came over.
“Hello sir and Madam Can I get you some drinks before you order?”
“Double whiskey for me.”
“Gin and tonic for me”
Everybody in the restaurant was full of conversation it was quite loud, Gill overheard some lad mention that the three girls dead in the park had been hacked to death ripped apart by a savage beast.
**********************************************************************************
“Laura Mole?”
“Yes that’s me.”
“We’re investigating a triple homicide case.”
“Oh and what do you want from me?”
“Don’t worry you’re not a suspect.”
“We need you to identify a body you may know who they are.”
Laura agreed and they showed her the bodies.”
“Don’t recognise them sorry.”
“How did they die and where?”
“At the park and possibly by an animal.”
Laura went a pale white.
“The man in the suit” she mumbled.
“Pardon?”
“Well I read a book by Frank Damper and there’s this evil creature which rips people up he’s dressed in a suit.”
She showed the policeman the exact page where three girls possibly prostitutes were killed by similar injuries.
“Is it possible to kill somebody then to mimic it so it looks like an animal killer?”
“Don’t be stupid how could anybody rip someone’s torso without a weapon and the cuts were jagged.”
“Anyhow thanks”
**********************************************************************************
“Time for dessert.”
Frank looked at the menu.
“I’ll have the cheese cake.”
“Banana split for me.” Gill replied.
Suddenly Frank went a pale white shivering.
“It’s cold in here”
“No it isn’t.”
“I need the toilet.”
“Frank, Frank…”
He got up and went straight to the toilet; standing in the cubicle was the man in the suit.
“Tasty meal?” He smirked
Frank grabbed him and pinned him against the wall.
“Look here what’s going on?”
The suited man wasn’t in the toilet anymore and Frank was pushing one of the waiters.
“Sorry he mumbled.”
“Food couldn’t be that bad” The waiter replied and left.
Frank turned to the sink to wash his hands. Suddenly his hands started bleeding gushes of blood were coming from his wrists.
How did this happen, blood had splattered onto his clothes. He must have caught it on something.
After a while Gill was getting worried and sneaked into the gents.
“Frank?”
Frank was bleeding sobbing in the toilet cubicle.
“I think I’m going mad.”
“What’s up, oh my God you’re bleeding.”
“It’s stopped.”
“The man with the suit was in here he attacked me with a knife. I think.”
“What do you mean I think? He either did or didn’t?”
“I feel like I’m half asleep half awake.”
“There was another person in the cubicle.”
“Sorry mate I must have caught you when you pushed me” said the waiter.
“Yeah that’s what happened” Frank asked
“Yes whose the bloke in the suit he wasn’t in here.”
“There he is” Frank screamed.
“There’s nobody there.” Gill said supportingly.
“Oh I’m mad then.”
“You’re not mad a bit eccentric but not mad.”
After a while the bleeding stopped and the two of them finished their meals.
Frank said
“I’ve ran in sick for work I’m going to have a few days off I’m stressed to the eyeballs.”
“Frank Damper?”
“Yes”
“Super intendant McCoy”
“I’d like to ask you a few questions about the deaths of three young woman.”
“Am I under arrest?”
“No, but we want to get the facts can you come with us.
“Okay can Gill come?”
“If you want.”
CHAPTER 3
Laura rang up Dominic.
“Dom it’s me, did you hear about the deaths at the park?”
“Jesus, no.”
“They did it in the same way as the book.”
“Do you think it was Frank?”
“No it’s not Frank, but it could be the evil creature.”
“Don’t be stupid it’s fiction, Frank’s mind nothing else.”
“Can I come round?”
“It’s 11:00.”
“So.”
“Okay.”
“So what you’re saying I’m responsible” Frank said.
“No we just think it’s co-incidence but your writing is very detailed, did you research this?”
“No too be honest I don’t remember writing it.”
“Oh I see.”
Soon Gill and Frank were leaving the police station.
“What’s going on Frank?” Gill asked
“Have you read the rest of the book?”
Frank asked.
“Yeah it’s brilliant.”
“Yes but something bad happens.”
“It won’t happen in real life its pure coincidence.”
“Yes”
Frank and Gill went back to Frank’s only to find the door wide open.
“What the…”
“Oh God Frank you’ve been burgled.”
Frank stood in disgust.
“Nothing is missing” He said as he peered through the door.”
Gill found a note on the cupboard door.
“It’s addressed to you Gill.”
“Me?”
“Yeah open it.”
“Okay”
Dear Gill,
When you read this I shall be gone, gone to a better place my home, but I’ve got to say that I enjoyed my time with you and you’re a good lover.”
“What’s it say?”
“Odd, it’s from somebody who thinks we were together, I’m only loyal to you Frank and I’ve never cheated on you.”
“You’d better go.” Frank said sternly.
“What you do believe me, don’t you?”
“Right now I don’t know what to believe I need to be alone.”
“Suit yourself.”
Laura woke up first got up and went downstairs. Dom’s parents had gone out and didn’t look like they had come home. She flicked on the TV and flicked through the music channels.
Dom was soon by her side.
“Been reading more of that book?” Dom asked.
“Yes interesting who is the man in the suit and what’s his plan?”
“That would be telling read on.”
“It’s so realistic it could be happening right under our noses.”
“Only one way to find out.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let’s do a Ouija board?”
“What? Okay.”
**********************************************************************************
Frank remembered the warning he had received and the appointment he had with the man in the suit, he wanted answers. He threw on some clothes and rushed to the café. Sure enough there was the man in the suit. He had a mask covering his face.
“Sit.”
“Ok.”
“What’s going on, why am I here, who are you, what…?”
He was cut short with a stern
“Quiet.”
“Listen and learn.”
“I chose you because your mind is creative and you write brilliant novels.”
“Chose me for what?”
“Give in”
“To what? Take off the mask.”
“In time.”
“My name is Oliver Cristoph, I’m Czech but my Dad was Russian. I become interested in the human mind and carried out experiments. Imagine being able to alter mind patterns.”
“What do you mean?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“All I need you to do is look out and be careful they’re onto you.”
“Who?”
“The free radicals.”
“Your mind is trapped they read your mind, they communicate with you, they communicate through free radicals.”
“Who are they?”
“Your altered ego. When we experimented we started on mice we found they became more intelligent and self-aware. Anyhow gotta go.”
“One more thing” Frank asked
“How come you attacked me in the toilet?”
“I didn’t; you attacked me.”
CHAPTER 4
Laura and Dom sat with the Ouija board on the table. Dom asked if there was anybody there. He asked again and suddenly the glass moved to yes. They both jumped.
“What is your name?”
The pointer spelt out “FRANK DAMPER.”
“He’s not dead your lying” Laura said to the board.
The board shuck and the glass exploded.
They both decided it was too scary.
“So what have we learnt?”
“We haven’t learnt anything.”
“Yes we have.”
“What?”
“That the spirit knows Frank or that Frank’s an impostor.”
“The spirit could be the man in the suit.”
“True, but wasn’t he an alien in the book.”
“The books fiction Dom, you’re looking into it far too much.”
“Yeah maybe you’re right.”
**********************************************************************************
Frank gave the waiter a little tip and left stopping by a corner shop to buy some cigarettes. He lit one as he left the shop carefully dragging on it wondering his thoughts. He decided to walk through the symmetry. AS he walked through he noticed a new grave stone. He read the message.
“Here lies Margret Cristoph, wife of Oliver, Mother of 2”.
The date said 1803. That was impossible, Oliver was real he wasn’t a ghost, it must be coincidence or some other Oliver. Anyhow that stone was brand new as if it was just placed there.
Strange things were happening. Suddenly he heard a shout craning his ears he listened again; sure enough there it was again. Suddenly a woman came running past him.
“Quick run.” She screamed
Frank started running.
“What
“Hello” he muttered.
There was no reply, until…
