The burning is spreading! It went from my hands to my arms and then down my back. The bright red flames shoots out of my fingertips to the father I once loved. They wouldn’t stop no matter how much I try. Screaming erupts in my ear. I turn toward my mother and the flames engulf her. I hear my younger sisters screaming at me to stop. But I couldn’t. My rage toward my father fuels the fire.
Wait! I don’t have sisters! And I don’t have the ability to bend fire! This is someone’s memory not a dream. I can’t believe that I am getting memories from someone. Only soul mates can connect their memories like that. I just thought it wouldn’t happen to me.
My sisters pull on my arms, trying to get the flames away from our mother. I scream at them to let go or they would burn too. But they wouldn’t. Out of fear of burning them, the flames die. Ethne runs over to our mother to checks for a pulse. When she starts crying, I fall apart. Tears roll down my cheeks as the sudden realization that I killed our parents hit me.
I shoot up out of my bed as the smell of smoke fills the air. I hear growling and barking coming from down stairs. I run into the hall and burst through Zephyr’s bedroom door. He jumps out of his bed ready for an attack. I would have giggled at his superman boxers but right now the house is on fire. I grab a hold of his hand and drag him down the stairs. On our way out the back door Zephyr grabs our jackets.
He wraps his long, silver trench coat around my body and stops the wind from blowing against my half naked body. All of a sudden we are surrounded by fire elementals. Zephyr pulls me into his back, trying to protect me. Thanatos, Demitrius’s black hellhound, appears out of nowhere behind me. Thanatos growls at the intruders, not liking outsiders on his territory. Zoya, Thanatos’s mate and Demitrius’s brown hellhound, runs out of the wood in a full rage. She gave birth a couples days ago to three black puppies, three brown puppies and one tiny white puppy, so she is extremely protective right now.
