Right from my childhood, I have a passion for uniformed jobs. The first uniformed job that made me feel so is the pilot uniform.
I always loved to fly up in the air like the birds. I never felt bored to relate myself to the singing birds or the majestic eagle that flies high up in the sky. The sight of a pilot fascinated me and made my imagination run wild. I imagined myself to be a pilot and flying a flight up in the air.
There is no exception to tell that the uniform of the cops over here also attracted me. While watching English movies, I admired cops at United States of America.
The patrol car that comes with its unique siren made my adrenalin ride high and feel excited. Every country has its own cop uniform. So I have a liking for every country's cop uniform.
When I got a chance to go to a Women Police Station to take up the role of a person attending distress calls from women and children, I always admired the women constables, sub-inspectors there.
There were many chances to attend the civic-police meetings and discussions. Those meetings were attended by the higher police officials of Chennai. No matter how risky their lives are, I am still fascinated by their uniforms.
The Traffic constables who stand at the signals during peak hours always made me feel thrilled. I always thought about talking with one of them and get an interview and publish it.
The stiff uniform of the military personnel also made me feel high. After hearing about their lives at the war front and the trauma they have to go through after returning from a war front, does not let my passion down. Still I love to watch a uniformed military man walk with pride.
There is no exception to the uniformed drivers and conductors in the mofussil buses in which I travel every day to my office. My love for uniformed jobs will not be complete without a mention about the pure white uniforms of navy officers and admirals.
Right from my teens, I rarely got the opportunity to socialize. The same thing continues now also. The only space I have to relax for a while is the time I travel in the bus. The khaki uniformed drivers and conductors in the bus have never failed to catch my attention, and that made me write a few stories about their every day encounters with the society and their personal life.
All this passion got its due pride, when I looked at my daughter wearing her bulbul uniform. I enrolled my daughter in Scouts and guides at her school, in her third grade. Every Tuesday, she will go to school wearing her bulbul uniform.
My love for uniform got its share of joy when she received her Golden Arrow award at a function organized by the Scouts and guides movement at Chennai. Yet, it is not over. I love to see my daughter in one of the prestigious uniformed jobs and prove her best.
The reason for all this is, I wanted to join the National Cadet Corps at school, but I was denied by the NCC officer who told that I looked puny and weak and I would not fit into that uniform.
Even now that craziness exist in me.
