Everyone has dreams and wishes in life, but will they ever come true...?
The Shiny Blue Ring
There was a little boy named Jay. On a hot summer day long ago, while he played alone in his backyard. He was swinging on his new swing set, jumping up and down on his trampoline, running around the backyard chasing the white and yellow butterflies, and fanning away buzzing flies. Jay stopped and looked down suddenly, and saw a ring in the thick green grass. He picked it up, wiped it off with his hands and shirt to remove the dirt, and then placed the ring on one of his little fingers.
Jay ran into the house to show the ring to his Mom and Dad. “Look Mom and Dad! Look what I found in the backyard!”
They liked the ring, and so they said to him, “That's such a beautiful shiny blue ring, and it fits your finger perfectly too.”
What none of them, did not know that the ring would make all his wishes come true... as long as it was on one of his fingers.
Jay left the house and ran back out to play. Five minutes later he decided he wanted some cookies and milk. He went back into the house cookies and milk was already set out for him on the kitchen table. He thanked his Mom, gobbled them up, and then went back outside to play.
Thirty minutes later, Jay’s Dad called him into the house. His Aunt Patrice and Cousin Anthony were sitting at the dining room table. “Hi," Jay said to his Aunt and Cousin. Would you like to go outside, Anthony?" Jay said.”
"Yes, let’s go play.”
And so out they ran.
They jumped on the trampoline, chased each other around the backyard, and played catch with Jay’s big red and white ball.
Oh, the appetites of young boys! They wanted ice cream not five minutes later. Aunt Patrice, who knew what young boys playing are like called them into the house to get some ice cream.
When they finished eating their ice cream, they both said “thank you”, of course, and then off they went to Jay’s bedroom to play.
Sitting in the middle of the floor, Anthony noticed the ring on Jay’s finger and asked “Where did you get that ring from?"
Jay replied, “I found it in the backyard."
"I like your ring, Jay. I want one too." Anthony looked on the bedroom floor in front of him and noticed another ring. He looked at Jay's finger and noticed he still had it on his finger. Then looked back on the floor again and to his amazement there the ring was, shining bright blue. How puzzling.
"Your shiny blue ring is magic," "Anthony said." Anthony put the second ring on one of his fingers. They started to play a game of tic-tac-toe and a few seconds later both of their rings started to glow. Anthony exclaimed, “Look Jay, my ring is glowing!" Jay's was not.
Anthony won the first game of tic-tac-toe, the second, third, and fourth, too.
“Your ring is magic too Anthony. It must be!" Anthony wished for a pretty bird in a cage. A talking bird, he said.
“Yes, I wish I had a colorful talking Parakeet in a cage." Poof! A few seconds later a very colorful Parakeet in a cage appeared right before their eyes.
Jay and Anthony talked to the bird and admired him, but knew that they could not keep the beautiful talking Parakeet because, well, how would they explain the bird to their parents? So Anthony wished the colorful talking Parakeet and the cage would disappear...and it did.
They tested the rings more, to make sure their wishes would all come true.
Jay wished for a brand new red two-wheeled bike with helmet and knee pads. After Jay made his wish, the brand new red two-wheeled bike he'd asked for, along with the helmet and knee pads appeared.
Wow! It looks like my ring is good to go! Let’s see what you can think of, Anthony."
“Alright. Let me see...I want a brand new boom box with CD, cassette player, and radio, and a cool new blue jean outfit with a Detroit Tigers baseball cap to sport with my new cell phone that Mom and Dad bought me." They both laughed with glee at this.
A few moments after Anthony made his wish, everything appeared right in front of him.
The boom box with CD, cassette player, and radio, and the blue jean outfit with a Detroit Tigers baseball cap all fitted just right, too.
“Well, Jay, looks like we both have hit the jackpot. Okay, now we have to make it all disappear. Sorry."
“Oh no, I was just starting to have some fun, Oh well, I wish the red two-wheeled bike with helmet and knee pads would disappear." he said sadly.
“I wish the brand new boom box with CD, cassette player, radio and the cool new blue jean outfit with a Detroit Tigers baseball cap would disappear," he said After Anthony made his wish, everything disappeared.
Jay and Anthony knew for sure that both of their Shiny Blue Rings were magic, though, and they made a promise to never, ever tell a soul. But! If family members (or close friends) wanted something very very nice... their wishes would all come true.
