She stares at the tiny kitten, a bundle of joy, the small runt of the group, actually living, breathing, and alive. The small gray kitten mews begging for her and her sister’s attention. They look at the little fluff ball and coo. Happy that he is a survivor, still young, but he lives. The girl and her sister’s heart so full of joy just looking at this energetic kitten. It purred its way into their hearts, leaving no space for anyone else. So young they were, caring for a little one. Their father gone on an errand and their mother sleeping. She picks up the kitten, cuddling it. All of a sudden the oh so affectionate kitten tries to escape. Confused she puts the kitten down. The kitten coughs, its small body heaving and choking on the air. The girls sister runs into the house to call their dad, begging him to get home early, telling him to hurry, something is wrong. The girl stares at the kitten tears welling up in her eyes as she begs the fatal fact not to be true. The kitten can’t be dying. Tears overflow as she realizes it’s true. The sunlight in her life is dying, right in front of her. The kittens body heaves as she hold the limp, but alive body in her hands, telling the kitten how much she loves it and how much she does not want it to go. The kittens pained meows cause stabs in her heart every single time. Her sunbeam was suffering. She grips the weakening body to her as she cries, praying that everything will be alright. She doesn’t even notice her sister besides her, weeping almost as loud as her, the loss damaging both of them. The little body musters one last mew and holds still, going limp. The two girls wail for all their worth, their hearts broken by this one little kitten. They knew their kitten was sick, but why!? Why did he have to leave!? The girl gently sets the still body on the ground, praying for the kitten. It’s too late. Their father walks in to the sight that lies ahead of him. His two weeping daughters, devastated, over a dead kitten. She shoots herself to her dad begging him to save the little one, begging. All he does is saying he cannot do anything. The wails grow louder and stronger than before the two girls being carried back to an alarmed family. Trying to rush back to the dead body now gathering flies. They buried the little kitten, their sunbeam into the cold hard ground, not a place for a kitten as warm as that one.
The kittens name was Tiny. He barely lived when he was born, very ill. A barn kitten. The little girl was me and my sister. That is a time we will never forget. Watching him die that day taught me something, life is not fair. Please honor this story and do not mix it up or change it in any way. I still miss him.
