The sun rose from the horizon as I gave a yawn, the sunrise was unexpectedly warm, especially in a cold place like Everblue, giving me the impression that today was going to be wonderful. I smiled to the sun before rolling off my bed and heading to the washroom to wash myself up. I emerged from the bathroom, my hair still dripping wet. The vapours from the warm water gushing out from the the bathroom into my bedroom immediately after I opened the door. I inhaled the scent of roses that came from the soap and shampoo I used. I took of my bathrobe and donned on my school uniform. I trodded down the stairs to where my foster parents were, "Good morning, Carlse, Melst."
"Ah... A good morning to you, Rose, have you had a good night?" My father answered.
"Yes, Carlse."
My mother just returned me a smile, her beautiful face lighting up at hearing my voice, her lips forming an attractive, gentle grin. "I'll be taking my leave then, goodbye." I said to my parents. "Have a nice day." They answered unanimously.
School is a disaster. School always was a disaster. Right from the last few centuries, I learnt the same things over and over again. The friends I have there have also been the same over and over again. Posett High, the name of my high school, a school filled with the world's most shocking beauties. "Rose!" I heard Esper call out to me. I whipped my head around to see Rigsin alongside her. "Good morning, Esper, Rig." I greeted. Rigsin nodded in adknowledgement, her quietness was nothing new to me.
"Did you hear?! Did you hear?! There's a new guy in school! And he is so TOTALLY hot! He's perfect!" Esper yelled excitedly, "Well, except that he's..." She trailed off. "He's not a Pureblood?" I guessed. "No! That's not it! There's no problem if he wasn't a Pureblood! But he's neither a Pureblood, nor a Trueblood! He's a Puremoon!" In this school, vampires and werewolves stay together, study together, but they don't get along well, or so some of the more older vampires say. I don't believe that rumour since I get along rather well with the werewolves though Esper and Rigsin did say that might be due to my looks, personality and background since they do not get along that well with the werewolves.
"Wow! He's so hot!" "Look at him, he can be compared to Rose already!" I heard those voices and suddenly, the new guy piqued mey curiosity. Someone who could be compared to me in terms of beauty? He must be hot. I knew my looks were better than those who look like celebrities and though I did not like the attention, I have come to grasp that fact rather well. I peeked through the crowd, catching a glimpse of the man. He was dashing, his sleek dark black hair having a few tints of red in it, his posture was straight and tall. And his eyes, his eyes were the colors of black and somewhat silver mixed together, and thay showed a long way down, as if it were a tunnel, a never-ending tunnel, and they were... looking at me! I gasped as he smirked and continued stroding off. Now that I thought about it, he looked familiar, a little too familiar to be just someone I met on the streets. Why?
I stared after him as he continued his walk towards the administrator's office, to get his timetable, perphaps. "Come on, let's go! We're going to be late for class, we'll see him later during recess or some lessons hopefully!" I heard Esper's cheery voice in the background. I nodded and walked off to my first class of the day, Biology.
Walking down the corridors, I saw a huge mob surrounding the exterior of the class. What's happening? I strode forward and walked through a little opening of the crowd and into the classroom... and stopped dead. There, seating at the seat beside mine, was the new student. I looked at Mr. Casme, the biology teacher who had just entered the room, "Wha... What is he doing there, sir?" I stuttered as I asked.
"Ah... Well, the seat beside yours is the only one empty so he could only sit beside you." For years, the seat beside me was empty because I was the only Pureblood in Biology, and there were no Puremoons in the class either. School rules stated that only Pures can sit together beside one another, although it was sad to say that neither Esper nor Rigsin who had all the same classes as me were Purebloods. Purebloods are vampires that have pure vampire blood because... well...we have a family - whether a few thousands of generations or not - of vampires who never ever messed with a human or a vampire who was not a Pureblood before, meaning they only did it with the vampires in their family to give birth to other vampires while Truebloods, on the other hand, have generations of their family members messing up with a human or other non- Pureblood vampires to have vampire babies. It's about the same with Puremoons and Truemoons, just that they were werewolves instead of vampires. Cold sweat dripped down my pale white face as I cautiously sat down beside him and caught him staring at me. "Good morning." He greeted, his voice sounded like music to my ears. "Good morning." I replied and looked away and faced the whiteboard as the school bell rang. It was so hard to concentrate with him studying me like I was an exhibit in a museum, and I knew that because I stole peeks at him when I thought he wasn't looking.
I immediately picked up my bag and ran out of the classroom when the bell rang. I couldn't stand it anymore. He was tempting me, I knew that, and I felt the sudden heat in my jaws, a feeling I'd long grown used to since young. A feeling of hunger. He was tempting me and I was tempted. Shameless. Purebloods shouldn't be like that, and especially not with Puremoons nor Truemoons.
I walked towards the canteen and stood at the Purebloods' queue, there weren't alot of Purebloods in this school nor around the world. Purebloods live for centuries. They either get tired of living, try to control time but get defeated by it in the end, don't want to give birth to lives that would become like theirs, or when they find mates, they do not reproduce. These all contributed to the low population of Purebloods.
Puremoons, on the other hand, reproduce with their mates. Even when there is no love which they can find, they forcefully find mates without love, and reproduce with them. That's why it is normal for a longer queue at the Puremoons' queue. I picked up my tray of food after collecting it from counter and made my way to sit with Esper and Rigsin who were already at the usual table. "HE. IS. SO. HOT." I could hear Esper going ridiculously high as she excitedly spluttered out the words. "Who is so hot?" I asked curiously. Esper stared at me like I had gone mad and answered, "Why, Dev, of course!" I opened my mouth to ask a question but Rigsin beat me to it as she said softly. "Rose, you don't know who Dev is." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. A correct statement. "What?! You don't know who Dev is?! Impossible!" Esper yelled. "Anything's possible for Rose." I heard Rigsin say.
"So who is he?" I was getting irritated, and the itching below the jaw wasn't helping. Esper's finger moved to a guy. That guy. "He's Dev, the new student who happens to be sitting next to you and who happens to have all classes together with you." She said, sounding jealous. "O-Oh. Him..." I replied. I still remembered the way he studied me, the way he looked at me, like I was bare and naked.
After school, I drove my sleek scarlet red Ferrari back to my house and stopped at the porch. "I'm home!" I yelled out as I walked through the front door. "Welcome home, Rose." I heard my mother's sweet voice.
"Hi, Melst." I said and I walked straight up to my bedroom. I needed time to calm down. My heart was still racing from the incidents - where the same werewolf sat beside me in ALL my lessons - just now, and I felt excited by it, as excited as when I took real human blood but that was a long time ago. I try, together with my family, to be 'vegeterians'. Meaning we try not to drink any human blood. I jumped on to my bed, my heart palpitating ever so violently. My mother knocked on the door, "What's wrong, Rose?" She asked and entered my room. "N-Nothing." I said, my voice muffled as I pushed my face in to the pillows. But I was sure she could hear me, vampires had very sensitive ears, they could hear whispered conversations from lots of miles away. "Why, my dear, did something happen in school?" My mother questioned soothingly, comfortingly, and motherly as she sat on the bed right beside me and patted me on my back. "If you don't want to tell me, it's fine but... Please, tell someone so that you don't take all of the burden yourself." She said as she prepared to stand up and walk away. I reached out my hand and pulled on her shirt. I looked up as I saw her eyes widen in surprise at my wet eyes.
Fresh tears dripped down my porcelain face.
I sniffled, "I-I think I am doing something really wrong." I confessed to my mother. "What is it?" My mother prompted. "I... I think I... Fell for a werewolf." My mother's gasp was not stifled. Raw shock was evident in her tawny brown eyes, which were very similar to mine. "H-How..." She started, but broke off halfway, then started again, "D-Does he know? Who is he? A Puremoon, or a Truemoon?" "He's a Puremoon and I think he doesn't. He's a new student, he just joined the school." I answered. "W-What's his name?" My mother inquired in a suspicious manner. "Dev." I said and furrowed my brows together when I saw my mother flinched at his name. "What's wrong, mom?" I asked her curiously.
"N-No. Nothing..." I heard the secretiveness in her voice but decided not to pry. A mother should still have her own secrets and privacy, she does not have to tell everything to everyone who asks. "Okay," I replied, trying to sound like I did not suspect a single thing, "So... What do you think I should do, mom?" I asked her, getting back to the original topic again. "Huh?" My mother seemed confused for a moment, and then I saw realisation dawned on her as she said, "Oh, yes, yes. I think it should be okay, as long as your affection for him isn't made known. And please dear, remember this, a vampire and a werewolf can never be together." My mother said to me in advice.
Again. Why did I always have to listen to the same sentence that vampires and werewolves can never be together? "O-Okay, Melst." I answered and I could hear the reluctance in my voice. "Good, now take a rest, I'll check on you later." Melst replied.
I tried my best to sleep but ended up rolling around. It was really difficult to even take a short nap. His face kept floating into my end. And I couldn't control it.
