Little Mary: Origins

Thirty years ago, someone attacked the emperor, but no one had found out who it was. They say that she wore a mask and a long black cloak, torn at the bottom. They called her “Little Mary,” as it had been written in blood on her mask. They say that she killed with a bloodied dagger. There are some that do not believe that Little Mary is even real. As of recently, Little Mary has been talked about for roughly sixty years, and the story of Little Mary originated in the second century. Originally, before she was known as Little Mary, she had dressed in all white and red fancy clothes, standing side-by-side with the emperor. Back then, she was the emperor’s advisor, also one of the most beautiful women. She had been a kind and gentle woman, as well. She was never sullied. However, it was known that she’d become a murderer due to the emperor’s actions. The emperor, one day, had her family executed for treason, then tried to force himself upon her. She ran away successfully and tore the clothes from her body. For days, she’d been travelling dirt roads and through mud. When she’d found a small building in the middle of the woods, she decided to rest. Once she rose, she found herself lying on the ground, a cloth over her body. A person sat, hunched over, in the corner of the room. They wore a black cloak and never showed their face to her. They hadn’t bothered once to turn their eyes to her. The figure simply tossed a blank white mask and a black cloak over to her. She quickly changed. Then, the figure decided that it had been time to do something with her. And so, for many months, if not, years, she’d been trained by the figure to become a worthy assassin. By now, two decades had passed and she was given the title Little Mary. On her mask, in blood, Little Mary had been written. She’d never wandered astray from the building, not once. However, come time the figure’s death, she decided it was time to get revenge. She walked the same path she’d ran once before. It was much more tattered and a bit different than she recalled, but continued, nonetheless. Once she arrived to the town she was born in, she resumed walking, past the people, who all stared at her strangely. She soon arrived at the emperor’s estate, who had been sitting in the middle of a room, facing the door, in the lotus position. He was much older now, gray hairs on his head and a long beard. He had been nearly bald, as well, with one sizeable brown spot on his head. He looked up, his eyes meeting the eyes of her through the mask. Regardless. he knew who she was, even though she looked much different. He only weakly chuckled and, rather than begging for mercy, begged for death. He closed his eyes, raised his head, exposing his neck, and waited. Little Mary was surprised, dagger in hand. She hesitated to go to him, but still did. Slowly lowering the blade to his neck, she quickly plunged it in, trying to force a quick end to his life. The blood spurted, nearly a few drops to her shoulder. He’d fell backwards, sliding off the blade on his own. She went to examine his face, which only had a large smile. Without a word, without sound, she left his body. He sat there in his own warm pool of blood. Everyone backed away in fear when they saw the blood on her body, but no one decided to ask why there was blood or to stop her. By then, she’d become a murderer. It was said that years later, the town went to hell, unable to hold on its own, so it fell. Nowadays, they say that Little Mary has returned from the dead to kill the emperor of the new age. The same mask, the same black cloak. The reason I know this is because I am the emperor’s daughter, L-i-t-t-l-e M-a-r-y.
