Rob was sitting at the fire place with his favourite book, “of vice and virtue”, drinking a strawberry frappe when the bell at the front door rang. He moaned and sighed as he had to get up and leave his comfy spot. The bell rang for a second time and rob got up annoyed and dragged his feet as he was walking to the front door, swearing underneath his breath on the way to the door. As he got half way from the fire place to the door, the lights went dim through-out the whole house and he felt the mats on the floor shift below him about an inch from their original place.
Rob had trouble finding his way to the door in darkness, especially since now he was afraid and worried that something sinister and immortal may be lurking around his house. Panic filled him neck high inside but on the outside it looked as if he hadn’t even noticed the change. The rain shattered on the tin roof and the doorbell rang urgently. Rob finally reached the door, when he heard the doorhandle rattle and someone whispering. It sounded like the voice of his good mate Lee, so Rob didn’t hesitate to open the door on the first go. But when he did, he found himself more in horror than shock as standing before him was a drenched little child, with his ribs sticking out- looking as if he had never had a feed in his life. The tag on his shorts was still sticking out even though the shorts were torn and muddy. He had long shoulder height hair which looked brown but it was hard to tell in the dark night.
“Have you seen my father, sir?” The child spoke in fear. Rob was speechless. He had no idea who might have been the father of this lost and sad poor child but even though he was bitter and cold, he couldn’t bring himself to tell the child standing at his front door- the truth. Rob didn’t need to use words to speak to him because the child already knew. He broke out into tears, one tear after another slid down his dirty little face. All the sour and bitterness vanished from Rob as now he only felt sorrow as he was once that boy. Lost with no parents, no one to look up to. No one to care for him and have his back, look of his shoulder, ask if everything was okay. Help him and encourage him that everything was okay. But nobody ever did.
Rob started to cry himself, silently and unnoticeable. He took the boy in as his own and gave him everything that he once longed for as a child.
