Ok, so my name is Max, you'd think I'd be over that by now wouldn't you? Well, I'm not. I mean, come on, my mom named me Max! Don't get me wrong, I love her and my name, but the teasing and bullying kinda get on the old nerves.
"Max! Get ready to go sweety, your father is here!" My mom, Kim, yelled from down stairs, making me jump as I was deep in thought only moments before.
"Coming, Mom!" I yelled back, grabbing my two black suitcases off the bed and checking my hair in my mirror before going downstairs where my dad was sitting in the recliner in our living room talking to my step-dad, James.
"Hi, Dad. I'm ready whenever you are." I said, smiling tightly. My dad was in "the" shirt again! The shirt he only when he was planning on taking me out to shop. I know, I know, doesn't sound that bad does it? Try hiding behind your dad while he tried to buy you ankle length skirts and puffy, over sized sweaters.
"Hey, kiddo. I got a suprise waiting for you! We're goin' shoppin'! You need a new wardrobe fore your stay in Benson." He said, grinning. He was always happy with himself when he thought he could trick me into cover, cover, covering up all my body parts with itchy wool and too long skirts that I tripped over.
"Actually, Dad, I went shopping the other day with Mom." I said lightly, thinking of the sweat pants, skinny jeans, and just a size too big sweaters that were in my black and blue sitcase right now.
"Oh, did you buy weather appropriate clothin'?" He asked, the mischevious light leaving his dark brown eyes as he turned to my mother.
"Of course we did, she's all packed and ready to go, have a nice time!" My mom said, smiling.
Once outside, we put my bags in the trunk and got into his old buick.
"Really, Dad, you should fix this thing up, it would look way better if you did." I said, leaning back in my seat, my head resting on the headrest.
"Now, Max, this time you are not going to mess with my car. I know your good with motor's and stuff like that, but this Buick has gotten me through alot and you're not going to start tinkerin' with it, young lady." He said, getting defensive.
"Fine, Dad, but as soon as we get to Benson, i am only going to drive or ride in my car." She said, refering to her black '74 Dodge Charger r/t clone.
She had fixed the car herself after finding it in a junkyard, rusting and without any descent parts except the body frame and steering wheel. She had made deeal with her mom, if she could find and get fixed, a car, she could keep it and get a license at sixteen. She had found her '74 and had put it together herself, working on it months just to get it to run, then she had painted it black, had the interior redone in leather, and had polished every inch of it before blindfolding her mom and suprising her with it.
Keeping with her side of the bargain her mother had signe all the nessecary papers, max had taken the test, and the next thing she'd know, she was driving to school in her new car.
Looking around her and at the scnary quickly passing as they drove to airport to catch a plane to Washinton, Max frowned. She didn't know why, but she had the feeling that this next two years might not be so bad. Shaking her head back and tightening her ponytail on black hair, she watched closed her purple tited eyes and thought, yeah right!
