I pulled the sheets over my head, breathing heavily. I released the grip of my closed eyes and peered through my shield. Beads of sweat formed all over my body as tensions rose. The room started to get dimmer as it began to grow. It all started as a childish game. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I had angered the spirits surrounding this demon. It’s many arms reaching out began to grasp me. My heart raced in its cage. I shut my eyes letting fear take me. I didn’t call out for help. I let it happen. It was my fault.

I had waited in my kitchen for my friends to arrive. A cup of coffee in hand I glanced at the mirror across the room and saw a bruise peeking out from my shirt. I needed to inform them about my issues, about our issues. My heartbeat sped up when I heard the door open and and shut, followed by a pair of footsteps heading my way.

“Hey kid!”

“Hey, Kyle, Saff,” I say to them.

“What’s up?”

“You okay? That bruise looks a little dark,” Saffire said while pointing out the partially hidden bruise.

“That’s what I wanted to bring up. I think…” I paused. I didn’t know how to bring it up. We had all buried it in the past with leftover scars and walls in our mind.

“Are you getting abused?” Kyle whispered, with much caring in his voice.

“No, god no. I just don’t know how to say it.”

“It’s just us. We’ll be fine. You’ll be okay too,” Saff smiled.

I sighed and looked down to keep my friends from seeing the tears. “It’s back,” I managed to get out. There was a deafening silence as nobody spoke but the words hung in the air. The memories burst through all the walls and barriers we had built together.

Kyle was the first one to speak. “But we had done everything right. It shouldn’t be back. It can’t be!”

Without speaking I stood up and turned my back to them. I lifted my shirt revealing the rest of the bruises and small cuts created last night. “My god Sara.”

“This was him? Are you sure?”

I pull my shirt back down and nod. Saffire pipes up, “He visited me a couple nights ago too. I didn’t think anything of it. Just standing in my room. I figured it was a nightmare, but now I don’t believe so. He attacked you?”

“Grabbed me. I blacked out from fear after. I don’t remember much. Just pain and squeezing.”

Kyle sat down and put his head in his hands. I think he was crying. Saffire and I shared a look before I attempted to soothe him. She looked saddened by it. I knelt down beside him with a hand on his shoulder. I looked up at Saff and she had turned away, avoiding looking at him. “We’re going to fix this again. And this time we’ll do it right.”

He sighed. “But I thought we did it right last time? I don’t know if I can go through this again. It took me a lot of therapy just to accept what happened. I can’t lose anyone else. I don’t want to become a part of the warning in the legend when they tell you what not to do for these things and for good reason too. I can’t do this again.” He went on. Saffire and I had let him keep going. It was good for him to verbalize everything he was thinking.

A short amount of time passes before everyone was fairly calm. We were all scrounging the internet for something to help us. It was quiet until Kyle started to speak. “I don’t want to be alone tonight. He’s going to come.”

I looked over at him and it was like a magic lightbulb went off in my mind. “We could all spend the night together. Groups are more powerful aren’t they? Whether it be thinking of ideas or fighting, three versus one is better than one versus one.”

“I can’t,” Saff sighs, setting the laptop on the table in front of her. I have to babysit my cousin tonight. They won’t be back until...like… three or something.” She flashed a smile of some sort. Apologetic?

“Come then?” I offer.

“I’d...rather not.” She lowered her head and avoided our gaze. Something was off with her, but I couldn’t tell what it was. She looks at the clock behind our heads and declares, “Gotta go, have a meeting with a client,” and left.

Kyle and I share a questioning look, wondering what Saffire’s strange act was. We both shrugged it off as nerves. “Are you going to stay?” I asked. I had hoped he would say yes. It was a scary thought trying to deal with this alone again. Those nightmares are traumatizing.

“Yeah, I think I can.”

“Good,” I smile. “It has been a while since we both had hung out together. I’m always busy with work and you’re always busy… doing whatever it is that you do,” I chuckle.

“Yeah.” He rubs the back of his head. Kyle had a nervous expression on his face. “I just wanna apologize. You were unaware of this but mainly the reason we couldn’t hang out was...well.”

“Therapy, I know. You had a lot of trouble accepting what happened, as we all did.”

“Well, yeah but not exactly.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Saff and I were a thing. She didn’t want me talking to you because she said that you liked me and was nervous. I don’t even know why I went along with all of that. I was alone and scared because of the accident, and someone who knew. I don't know.”

“So that’s why she’s acting weird.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Kyle, the last thing that you need to do is apologize. Let’s just move on from that. You did what you thought was right at the time, and that’s all that matters.” I smile and my heartbeat has risen. I cared for Kyle, I really did. That’s why I hated seeing him so hurt. I wanted to lean over and hug him, but would that be too much? We are friends and all but…

“Let’s just keep looking for something. We need to stop it now.”

More hours had passed before dusk had settled in. Kyle and I had set up a plan for the night. We would set up a camera for when we went to sleep, to record if anything was happening. The camera was off, in the corner of the room. We would turn it on when we were ready to sleep.

“I still don’t know what we did wrong. We collected all the notes. That’s what he is all about isn’t he?”

I thought for a moment, trying to remember the past and how we ended up with that monster on our hands in the first place. “What did we even do again to cause this? Maybe something important lies there.”

“Maybe if we stay up all night we can kill him? If he appears when we’re awake. I know as much as you do, Sara.” I smiled when he said my name.

“I’m kind of scared,” I admit with a shiver.

“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you,” He laughs. I think it was out of fear.

Both of us were getting drowsy, but neither of us would admit that we ready to go to sleep. Fear trumped sleepiness.

Old Version: 2014

I was in bed with my head under the covers. I turned my head to the tall dark figure in my room. I could see through the sheets, because they were thin. I started to sweat as the figure came closer. It's tentacles were reaching out to me, to eat me. I was sweating more and more. I slide deeper in my bed, as the no faced, slender body came twoards me. He leaned down in my face. I closed my eyes. I felt a deep pain in my leg so my eyes opened up. One of his tentacles were cutting my leg. I flinched in the pain. I was to scared to think of to stop him. I open up my eyes to see I had that same nightmare again...

I grabbed the first cup I saw and shoved it under the coffee machine. I was mad! "Okay so you maybe a little mad that it didn't work but you know, my plans are bad." Said Emily,

I stomped back and forth through the room. "I need to call Jake! I got a plan that might work. Oh! I need to show you something!" I ran across the room as I said it,

"What?" Emily asked eagerly, I lifted my leg up on the chair and pulled up my leg to reveal a deep cut that spelled slender in cursive! "Huh?" Asked Emily, I rolled my eyes as I slid my pants over the painless cut. I shook my head.

"I can't belive it..." I muttered, I ran over to the coffee machine and grabbed my cup. I can't belive I just made Coffee like that! I think, I giggle bit. "Get me the phone!" I order Emily,

I see her run over to the living room and disapear. I plop down in a wooden chair and wait. "AAAHHHH!" I hear Emily scream,

"What?" I yell back starting to run into the living room, She wasn't in there so I ran up the stairs. I see Emily in my room with the camera on the floor. "What?"

"Nothing, nothing" replies Emily calmly, I bend down and pick up the camera.

"Are you sure your okay?" I try to get an answer but she wont budge. I sigh and grab the camrea. "You sure?"

"Yes!" She says so annoyed, I sigh and hope it was really nothing. I run downstairs. "Oh also, how com that cut doesn't bother you?"

I shrug. I move into the kitchen and grab a phone. I dial Jake's number and call.

"You sure this will work?" Asks Jake, I nod and grab the camrea. "Lets get this hooked up!" Jason was the best with camreas! That's why I asked him to come over and set this up. I sigh as he walks in my room. I follow him into my embarrassingly Peacey room. "Woah! Peace much!" Laughs Jason. I take a good gander at my room. Sky blue walls with pink and purple peacesign stickers. A neon green fuzzy rug. My Peace pillow cases and cover, sheet and bedskirt.

"Yeah." I sigh, I point to a corner of the room near the cieling, "Hook it up there pointing at my bed and also hook one up facing my doorway." I point to the door way. I wonder if this would work. Setting up two camreas to watch me at night, when I have that 'Dream'. If it is even a dream...

I wrap my arms around Jason and hug him. "Thanks so much!" He lets go of me.

"Are you going to tell me what's this for?" I smile.

"Maybe..." I tease, I laugh and watch Jason walk out of the door. I sigh and shut it. Another night of terror, just to prove.

Again that dream terrors me that night. Slender. The dream was the same except for the part
